OUR MISSION

We each remember how we discovered neurosurgery, and there’s one underlying theme in our stories — luck. Like many subspecialties, neurosurgery isn’t necessarily built into the medical school curriculum. Many who pursue it do so by happenstance — somehow, they met the right person or walked into the right operating room and events unfolded.

Neurosurgery is one of the most competitive specialties in the residency application process. Therefore, it’s to students’ advantage to commit early to experiences that will bolster their applications. But what if you don’t realize you want to be a neurosurgeon until your third or fourth year because you weren’t given the opportunities to explore it earlier on?

That’s where we come in. We’re aiming to fill the gap in medical career exploration by introducing pre-clinical medical students to specialities like neurosurgery that aren’t built into the standard clerkship curriculum.

Early and intentional speciality exploration is critical. Existing resources and strategies for exploration include online tests, speciality summaries, and word-of-mouth. These often frame specialities in isolation. However, to understand a speciality and how you might fit in it, we feel it’s important to understand how that speciality fits in the greater health ecosystem. Thus, we want to show you neurosurgery and beyond. Join us as we explore the various sub-specialities in neurosurgery paired with collaborators in other specialties.

On a daily basis, we’re working with critical care, neurology, oncology, radiology, otolaryngology, orthopedic surgery, plastic surgery, trauma and general surgery, emergency medicine, pathology, internal medicine, nephrology, endocrinology, and many more.

Any of these could be right for you. We want to help you answer the question: what kind of doctor do I want to be?
